愛知県春日井市の雑木林に囲まれた一軒の平屋。建築家の津端修一さんと妻の英子さんの自然とともに暮らす老夫婦を映すドキュメンタリー。さまざまな団地などの都市計画に携わってきた津端さんが自ら手掛けたニュータウンに居を構え、四季折々の野菜や果実を巧みに料理する英子さんと寄り添う二人の暮らしは細やかな気遣いと工夫に満ちていました。

An architect once said, “A home should be a treasure chest for living.”

This is a documentary about an elderly couple—architect Shuichi Tsubata and his wife, Hideko—living in harmony with nature in a single-story house surrounded by a grove of mixed trees in Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture. Having previously worked on urban planning projects for various housing complexes, Shuichi settled in a “new town” he helped design himself. Their life together—shared with Hideko, who skillfully prepares dishes using seasonal vegetables and fruits—is filled with thoughtful care and ingenious touches.

A journey begins to rediscover the true richness of life that Japan had all but forgotten.
